New camera…Canon EOS 20D

Well I got real luck last weekend. I was out and about Saturday morning. Sondra had to work so I was headed to Alamo Draft house to watch Texas play. Decided to bring my old 35mm and my digital point-and-shoot along just in case I had time while I ease downtown to click off some shots. It had been a while since I took some pics.

But first I decided to head to Precision Camera on Lamar. I had been looking at the latest Canon EOS offering and salivating. The camera was announced third week in August and was supposed to start shipping sometime late Sept. This was Oct. and everyone was still claiming they had waiting lists. So I strolled into Precision Camera. Walk by the counter and scan the shelves. Did not see any big signs of the new camera.

I caught someone’s eye and they asked if I needed help. I quickly said ‘No, just dreaming. I mean looking.’ Before he could respond with ‘Well if you need anything let me know’. I asked ‘Say, have you guys started receiving the new Canon EOS 20D yet?’. He looks up like he is trying to remember something. Then starts, ‘Well we had some but all of them are gone to people on our waiting list. But I think we might have one in the back. Would you like me to go check?’. I couldn’t reply, ‘Yes’ fast enough. So off he goes. He’s gone about 10-15 minutes. While he is gone about three other customers come around asking the same thing, ‘Do you guys have the 20D yet?’. At the point he comes back, with box in hand, he tells me that if I walk away from the counter he’s obligated to sell the one and only 20D in the store to someone else. So I hand him my credit card and well the rest is a done exchange of commerce.

Very nice camera. This is just what I have been waiting for. I higher-end digital with all of the options of my 35mm, also a Canon BTW, with changeable lenses, aperture control the works. Plus at an 8MP format enough picture data to yield very nice pictures.

So I still tried to go watch the game. I put the camera in my trunk and sat through the first half. Then I starting thinking, ‘What the hell and I doing?’. So home I went to play with my new toy. Oh my!

I should have playes the lotto that Saturday. I might have won.
